1974 this was the Headquarters of the Sultan's Armed Forces at Bait al Falaj (Ruwi), which was under the process of moving to Muaskar al Murtafa'a in 1976. This historic Fortress was at the end of the original air strip that served Muscat before SEEB Airport was fully developed. It is now the SAF Museum.
